Tips for visiting religious, cultural & heritage sites in Singapore

  • Be Respectful - Pay attention to signs and respect any guidelines provided by the siteb - these may include areas off-limits to visitors or gender-specific spaces.
  • Be Considerate - Keep your voice down. If a ceremony is taking place, watch quietly from a respectful distance. Avoid using flash photography or walking through active prayer areas.
  • Dress Modestly - Avoid revealing attire, especially when visiting temples, mosques, or churches. Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
  • Remove Footwear - Many places of worship, especially Hindu temples and mosques, require visitors to take off their shoes before entering - look for signs or follow what locals do.
  • Learn Before You Go - Take a few minutes to read about the site beforehand. Understanding its cultural or religious importance will enrich your visit and lead to a better experience.
